Guadiana International Bridge seeks nomination as a New 7 Wonders of Portugal
The Guadiana International Bridge, opened in 1991, joins Ayamonte in Spain with Castro Marim in Portugal. It is a regional finalist in the New 7 Wonders of Portugal competition, placed in the “Grandes Obras” category alongside the Marina of Portimão.
Voting for the next phase will be held on 25 July during a live TVI program broadcast from the Palácio de Estoi in Faro. The municipality of Castro Marim urges residents to vote, highlighting the bridge’s role as a symbol of Iberian cooperation, its engineering significance, and the relocation of its alignment to protect the nearby Sapal natural reserve. The bridge also anchors the Eurocity Guadiana, a trans‑border partnership among Ayamonte, Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António.
