Guanajuato authorities honor police officer killed in Pénjamo ambush

Authorities in Guanajuato held a memorial service to honor Jesús Francisco, a member of the State Highway Police (PEC) who was killed during an ambush in Pénjamo. The attack occurred on August 10 on federal highway 84, between the communities of Nuevo Santa Elena de Aceves and La Viguería.

During the incident, the patrol vehicle Francisco was traveling in was targeted. According to the State Attorney General's Office, one assailant, identified as Guadalupe Sergio “N”, was killed during the confrontation. Another state police officer and a civilian were injured by gunfire during the exchange.

Juan Mauro González Martínez, the Secretary of Security and Peace, praised Francisco for his five years of service, citing his honesty and commitment to peacebuilding. He emphasized that the institution would support the officer's family and vowed to continue investigations to ensure those responsible for the aggression face justice.
