Guanajuato electoral institute denies GNIOG political party registration

The General Council of the Electoral Institute of the State of Guanajuato (IEEG) has unanimously denied the registration of the Guía Nacional Indígena Originaria de Guanajuato (GNIOG) as a local political party. The decision follows the organization's failure to meet several legal requirements during its municipal and state assemblies.

Specific failures included the inability to prove that the organization's principles, action programs, and statutes were properly discussed and approved by members in the municipalities of Santa Catarina and San Luis de la Paz. The IEEG noted that these documents are essential for establishing the group's ideological identity and operational framework.

Additionally, allegations have surfaced regarding irregular practices. In Valle de Santiago, citizens reported that GNIOG allegedly distributed food aid in exchange for membership. The IEEG has instructed its Legal and Contentious Technical Unit to investigate these claims. Plácida Calzada Velázquez, president of the commission for Human Rights and Attention to Vulnerable Groups, supported the decision, stating that the organization does not legitimately represent the interests of indigenous communities.
