Guanajuato Governor Libia Dennise expands security pact and migrant outreach
On 22 July 2026 the governor of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, chaired the Octava Reunión Regional de Seguridad in Guanajuato’s historic Alhóndiga de Granaditas. Governors of Colima, Nayarit and Zacatecas, together with senior military commanders, pledged to strengthen regional security by increasing permanent surveillance in border zones, investing in technology for a unified communications channel, boosting road patrols to curb vehicle theft and maintaining operational coordination among the states.
Earlier, the governor travelled to Chicago, where she met the Mexican consulate, community leaders and representatives of the Guanajuato migrant population. She discussed the state’s assistance programmes, citing 285 repatriations, 72 transfers of remains, 11 visa arrangements for widows and 7 medical repatriations handled this year, and outlined support for productive projects and financing for migrants.
