Guanajuato violence: Eight killed in five hours across three municipalities
A wave of violence has struck the Mexican state of Guanajuato, resulting in at least eight murders within a five-hour period across the municipalities of Pénjamo, Silao, and Salamanca. This surge follows a period of high activity, with reports indicating 16 homicides in the region since Tuesday.
In Pénjamo, an armed group entered a residence on 20 de Noviembre Street in the San Miguel neighborhood. Three people—identified as a man, his partner, and his mother—were killed inside the home. The victims showed signs of gunshot wounds and burns, suggesting an attempt to incinerate the bodies. Following the killings, attackers fired at the facade of a local business and left a threatening banner attributed to an organized crime group. The group also reportedly fired shots near the Municipal Public Security building.
In Salamanca, an armed attack near the central bus station on Valle de Santiago Avenue left one man and one woman dead, with an additional person injured. Authorities have not yet reported any arrests in connection with these coordinated attacks.
