Overview

Violence in the Mexican state of Guanajuato has escalated, involving multiple municipalities and resulting in several fatalities and injuries to minors. In Pénjamo, gunmen on a motorcycle wounded a 54-year-old and a 20-year-old man in the Corral de Piedra neighborhood. In Celaya, gunmen on a motorcycle killed a man and his dog in the San Martín de Camargo community. Following a period of relatively lower fatalities between October 2 and October 4, where eight homicides were reported, violence surged again. Within a single 24-hour period, the State Attorney General's Office reported 12 murders across the state, including incidents in San Felipe, San Diego de la Unión, León, Irapuato, Salamanca, Celaya, and Tarimoro. In León, four deaths were recorded, while in Salamanca, a man and a woman were killed in the Barlovento neighborhood. In mid-October, a new wave of violence resulted in at least eight murders within a five-hour period across Pénjamo, Silao, and Salamanca.
