Violence in Guanajuato, Mexico

Overview

A series of armed attacks in the Mexican state of Guanajuato has resulted in multiple injuries, including several children.

In Pénjamo, gunmen on a motorcycle targeted two men in the Corral de Piedra neighborhood, wounding a 54-year-old and a 20-year-old. A separate attack in the Jalisco alley area left a nine-year-old girl with a leg injury.

In Acámbaro, gunfire directed at at least two homes in the downtown area injured a three-year-old girl. This follows a previous wave of violence in the municipality, including a September 4 incident that killed four people and injured several others, including a five-month-old infant.

The State Attorney General's Office is investigating these attacks to identify the perpetrators, who have not been apprehended.
