Guardia Civil deactivates Civil War grenade in Abánades

The Guardia Civil has successfully deactivated a hand grenade dating back to the Spanish Civil War in the municipality of Abánades, Guadalajara. The explosive was discovered in an open field by a hiker, who promptly alerted authorities.

Following the report, patrols from Torremoncha del Campo and Cifuentes secured the site until specialists from the Explosive Deactivation Service (SEDEX), based in Valdemoro, arrived. The device was transported to a quarry in La Torresaviñán, where a controlled detonation was performed without incident.

Authorities issued a warning regarding the extreme danger posed by such relics, noting that despite visible signs of rust or deterioration, the explosive charge often remains intact and highly volatile. The Guardia Civil advises citizens not to touch, move, or manipulate any suspicious objects and to report findings immediately via emergency channels.
