Spanish Civil War ordnance discoveries

Overview

The Guardia Civil has been responding to the discovery of historical hand grenades in different Spanish municipalities.

In Abánades, Guadalajara, authorities deactivated a Spanish Civil War-era grenade found in an open field by a hiker. The device was transported to a quarry in La Torresaviñán for a controlled detonation. Officials warned that such relics remain highly volatile despite visible deterioration.

In Oncala, Soria, specialists removed two grenades—a WZ. 33 offensive hand grenade and an Otto Model 35—from a residence attic. Unlike the device in Abánades, these items were determined to lack explosive elements and posed no immediate risk.
