Guardia Civil freezes 46,000 euros in cryptocurrency scam investigation
The Spanish Guardia Civil has successfully frozen approximately 46,306 euros worth of stablecoins as part of an investigation into a cryptocurrency scam. The operation was conducted by the Cyber Command team following a digital complaint from a victim who reported a fraudulent Bitcoin purchase.
The victim had transferred 78,700 units of a stablecoin to various addresses under the direction of individuals posing as legitimate intermediaries. After the transfers were completed, the victim received neither the promised Bitcoin nor any compensation.
Through blockchain traceability analysis and cooperation with the digital asset issuer, authorities were able to block 53,671 units of the stablecoin. This action prevented the suspects from transferring, converting, or withdrawing the funds, which had been moved through various addresses in an attempt to hide the assets.
