Guardia Civil fraud and scam investigations
Overview
The Spanish Guardia Civil and other law enforcement agencies, including the Mossos d’Esquadra and Policía Nacional, continue to address a wide range of criminal activities across the country.
Recent reports expand on previous investigations into vacation rental scams in Tenerife, where eleven individuals allegedly used identity theft and fake websites. In Cambrils, a father and daughter were arrested for a real estate scam involving more than 200,000 euros. The ‘false electricity inspector’ scam in La Bañeza also remains a focus following the theft of 4,300 euros from an elderly woman.
Newer developments include a kidnapping investigation in Calella, which marks the fourth such case in Catalonia this month, and a robbery in Sabadell where a man was detained while targeting truck cargo. Violent theft was also reported in Benacazón, involving a suspect who allegedly attacked a vehicle owner with a shovel.
Other ongoing criminal matters include the theft of 5,000 kilograms of organic almonds in Cuenca, the investigation of falsified bullfighting documents in Albacete, and the arrest of a caregiver in Castellón for stealing jewelry from a vulnerable elderly couple.
