Guardia Civil increases surveillance in Ceuta after 59 migrant interceptions

The Spanish Guardia Civil has intensified maritime surveillance in Ceuta following the interception of 59 migrants attempting to reach the Spanish mainland via the Strait of Gibraltar over a two-day period. The individuals were attempting to reach the coasts of Cádiz and Málaga using various vessels, including recreational boats, inflatable rafts, and kayaks.

Recent interceptions include two kayaks carrying seven Moroccan migrants near Benzú, and two separate vessels carrying a total of 20 migrants near the Benzú and Santa Catalina areas. Authorities noted that many of these individuals had entered the autonomous city in late July and are now attempting to continue their journey to the peninsula. Surveillance efforts are concentrated in high-risk zones such as Benzú, Calamocarro, San Amaro, and Santa Catalina, where strong currents complicate the approximately 15-nautical-mile crossing.
