The Guardia Civil has uncovered a criminal network involved in online football ticket scams through an investigation known as ‘Operation Baloni’. Eight individuals, residing in Bizkaia and Cantabria, are under investigation for crimes including continuous fraud, money laundering, and membership in a criminal group.

The group allegedly posted false advertisements for football match tickets on online marketplaces. Victims were instructed to make immediate payments via mobile-linked systems to various bank accounts and phone numbers to evade tracking. The investigation, which involved months of analyzing bank movements and communications, has identified at least 16 victims across several Spanish provinces, including Almería, Madrid, Toledo, and Bizkaia.

Total estimated damages from the fraud amount to approximately 8,200 euros. Authorities have advised the public to use only official sales channels and to be wary of offers with prices significantly lower than usual.
