Guardia Civil reports rise in cybercrime in Castilla y León

The Guardia Civil in Castilla y León reported a significant rise in cybercrime, with 6,146 cyber-related offenses recorded between January 1 and August 31. These digital crimes represent 25 percent of the total 21,000 criminal offenses handled by the force during that period.

Brigadier General Miguel Sánchez Guerrero, head of the 12th Zone of the Guardia Civil, expressed concern regarding the expansion of criminal activity into cyberspace. He noted that the force must now operate both on the ground and in digital environments.

Regarding other crime statistics, the report indicated a 4.33 percent decrease in criminal acts related to gender violence compared to the same period last year. Despite this decline, there are currently 1,849 active protection orders and 2,567 women under the protection of the Guardia Civil in the region.
