Guardia Civil rescues two hikers near Pico Catoute

The Guardia Civil rescued two foreign hikers at the Corral Yeguas refuge near Pico Catoute in the municipality of Igüeña, León. The rescue operation was initiated after the hikers used a satellite phone to request medical assistance.

One of the hikers, a 23-year-old Moldovan woman, was suffering from physical ailments and stomach discomfort that caused vomiting. She was accompanied by a 24-year-old New Zealander. The alert was transmitted via a private emergency company in the United States, which provided the hikers' coordinates to the Guardia Civil's Operational Services Center.

The Special Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group (GREIM) from Sabero deployed a helicopter from the León Air Unit to reach the difficult terrain. The operation concluded on September 15, and both individuals were transported to the Hospital de León for medical treatment.
