Guardia Civil mountain rescue operations in Spain

Overview

The Guardia Civil has conducted separate mountain rescue operations for lost or ill hikers in different regions of Spain.

In early September, rescue teams including the GREIM mountain group and a helicopter from Vitoria located three hikers, including a pregnant woman, who had become disoriented in the Leza River Canyon near Soto en Cameros, La Rioja. The individuals were found in good physical condition.

In mid-September, a second operation took place near Pico Catoute in León. Following a satellite phone alert transmitted through a private emergency company in the United States, GREIM and a helicopter from the León Air Unit rescued a Moldovan woman and a New Zealander. Unlike the previous incident, the hikers required medical treatment at the Hospital de León due to physical ailments and stomach discomfort.
