Guardia Civil resolves Business Email Compromise fraud in Pinto and Valencia

The Guardia Civil has resolved two cases of fraud involving Business Email Compromise (BEC), resulting in a total loss of 12,000 euros for two companies located in Pinto and Valencia.

In the first instance, a criminal gained unauthorized access to computer systems and electronic communications to monitor commercial operations. The perpetrator then sent an email to a company in Pinto that appeared to be from a legitimate supplier, requesting a change in bank details for an outstanding invoice. The email used a domain nearly identical to the original, making the deception difficult to detect initially.

Following an investigation by the Cyber Command, authorities identified a second victim in Valencia who had suffered a similar fraud. The investigation involved coordinating efforts between different police bodies to address the falsification of commercial documents and illicit access to information systems.
