Guardia di Finanza busts impostor fraudster in Ragusa, Italy
A 33‑year‑old man from Belpasso was arrested by the Guardia di Finanza in Ragusa after posing as a finance officer and attempting to obtain jewelry and cash from an elderly woman. He claimed an ongoing investigation into a robbery at a local gold‑smith shop and cited a rental car and forged ID linked to the victim, persuading her to hand over valuables. The tip arrived via the public‑service number 117, prompting agents to intervene as the suspect received the items.
Investigators also identified a second suspect residing in Catania, who has been charged with conspiracy to commit fraud. The Ragusa court reclassified the offence as attempted fraud and ordered house arrest for the Belpasso suspect.
