Guardia di Finanza marks 252nd anniversary with events in Foggia, Perugia and Naples
Italy’s finance police, the Guardia di Finanza, commemorated its 252nd foundation anniversary with a series of public events in June 2024.
In Foggia, a military ceremony was held on 24 June at Parco “Campi Diomedei”, streamed live and attended by senior civil, military and religious officials. The ceremony included the award of honors to finance officers for acts of heroism.
Perugia hosted exhibitions on 25 June at Piazza del Bacio and the San Giovanni Paolo II complex. Activities for young visitors featured augmented‑reality headsets, flight and naval simulators, and demonstrations by canine units that illustrated anti‑drug and anti‑currency‑smuggling operations. Mascots “Fiammetta” and “Finzy il Grifone” were also displayed.
Naples organized a street‑festival along the Lungomare, between Via Caracciolo and Rotonda Diaz, with a dedicated traffic plan that closed the bike lane and suspended paid‑parking zones on Viale Dohrn. President Sergio Mattarella met the Guard’s commander at the Quirinale and praised the corps for its service to the Constitution and its cultural contributions.
All events aimed to raise public awareness of the Guardia di Finanza’s role in safeguarding economic legality and to foster engagement with younger citizens.
