Guardia Nacional launches highway robbery prevention plan in Guanajuato

The Mexican National Guard has launched a new security operation titled “Cero robos en carreteras” (Zero highway robberies) to combat theft targeting motorists and transport companies. The strategy will focus heavily on the federal highway corridor connecting Querétaro and Guanajuato.

General Iván Navarrete Torres, head of the Special Command for Zero Transport Robbery for the Querétaro-Guanajuato region, will lead the initiative. The plan involves coordinated efforts between the National Guard and the State Highway Police to address incidents affecting both commercial transport and private drivers.

During a meeting with transport industry representatives, State Attorney General Gerardo Vázquez Alatriste reported that vehicle and transport robberies on Guanajuato’s state highways have decreased by 63.2%. Government Secretary Jorge Daniel Jiménez Lona emphasized the importance of maintaining direct communication with transporters to address specific security challenges encountered during transit.
