Águas do Rio expands water infrastructure in Rio de Janeiro
Águas do Rio, a subsidiary of Aegea Saneamento, is expanding water supply infrastructure across the Rio de Janeiro metropolitan region. In Rio Bonito, the company is installing 12 kilometers of distribution network in Nova Cidade, a project expected to provide treated water to approximately 600 families for the first time. The first phase, which included the installation of 30 meters of steel piping across a bridge, has been completed, with the second phase expected to finish in four months.
In Duque de Caxias, the company has completed the installation of five kilometers of new water networks in Jardim Anhangá. This project benefits over 1,500 residents who previously faced irregular supply and relied on improvised storage.
Since November 2021, Águas do Rio has invested R$ 6.4 billion in improvements across 27 municipalities in the state of Rio de Janeiro. These investments have benefited approximately 3.5 million people through the implementation or replacement of 1,900 kilometers of water networks and 310 kilometers of sewage pipelines.
