Águas do Rio water infrastructure expansion
Overview
Águas do Rio, a subsidiary of Aegea Saneamento, is conducting various infrastructure projects to improve water supply and sanitation across the Rio de Janeiro metropolitan region.
Initial efforts included the implementation of three new booster pumping systems in the neighborhoods of São José, Rodolfo Gonçalves, and Via Parque. These systems were designed to provide stable pressure to properties in elevated areas.
Subsequent expansions include the installation of 12 kilometers of distribution network in Nova Cidade, Rio Bonito, intended to provide treated water to approximately 600 families. Additionally, the company completed five kilometers of new water networks in Jardim Anhangá, Duque de Caxias, benefiting over 1,500 residents. Since November 2021, the company has invested R$ 6.4 billion in improvements across 27 municipalities, impacting approximately 3.5 million people through the implementation or replacement of extensive water and sewage networks.
