Águas do Rio supplies regular water to 2,500 residents of São Gonçalo, Brazil

Águas do Rio, a concessionaire of the Aegea group, completed more than one kilometre of new water‑supply network in the Morro do Martins community of Neves, São Gonçalo. The project now provides regular tap water to roughly 2,500 people who previously relied on pumps, neighbour assistance and long walks carrying cans.

Residents such as retired worker Selmo Santos and 80‑year‑old Jorgina Santana described the shift from hauling water to being able to shower with a faucet. The company’s executive director Diogo Freitas said the delivery improves health, safety and dignity for the neighbourhood.

The installation is part of Águas do Rio’s broader programme in São Gonçalo, which includes similar works in Abacatão, Santa Izabel and Sacramento, and a R$ 120 million dry‑weather collector (CTS) that will eventually serve about 130,000 inhabitants, handling up to 12 million litres of sewage per day.
