Águas do Rio upgrades water supply and monitoring in Tanguá and Magé, Brazil

Águas do Rio, the concessionaire of the Aegea Saneamento group, is carrying out major water‑service upgrades in two Rio de Janeiro municipalities. In Tanguá, a new 2.5‑kilometre water main will raise daily treated‑water capacity from about 5.5 million to roughly 10 million litres, a more‑than‑40 % increase that will serve over 8,000 residents. The project, valued at around R$ 400 thousand, also includes a modest sewage‑network expansion for about 80 households and is slated for completion in July. In Magé, the company installed the first “skid” real‑time water‑quality monitoring system at the municipality’s new treatment plant. The equipment streams parameters such as chlorine residual, turbidity, pH and temperature to Águas do Rio’s Integrated Operations Centre, enabling rapid response to any deviations. The plant produces 330 litres per second from a 5‑million‑litre reservoir, delivering treated water to roughly 65 000 people and forming part of a broader effort that has already benefited about 114 000 Magé residents. "This investment … strengthens the water supply system," said director‑executive Diogo Freitas, while operations manager Fernanda Barreto highlighted the monitoring system’s role in improving safety and reliability.
