Guatemala braces for week of heavy rains as east wave brings moisture
The National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (INSIVUMEH) warned that from Monday 6 July to Friday 10 July the country will experience widespread rain, warm and humid conditions. Early morning fog or mist may appear, followed by afternoon and evening drizzle with electrical activity across much of the nation. The greatest rain accumulations are expected in the Northern Transversal Strip, the Caribbean coast, Boca Costa, Petén and the southern Central Highlands. Temperatures are forecast at 27‑29 °C in Guatemala City, 34‑36 °C along the Pacific and Caribbean coasts, 36‑38 °C in Petén and up to 39 °C in the Motagua valley and Eastern Valleys. INSIVUMEH advised the public to monitor official bulletins as the rains could trigger sudden river rises and flooding.
