Guatemala hosts cancer prevention health fair

The Guatemalan Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance (MSPAS) held the “Unidos contra el Cáncer” health fair at the Guatemalan Air Force facilities in Zone 13. The event, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of National Defense, focuses on cancer prevention and early detection.

Services provided to the public include screenings for breast, oral, stomach, and ovarian cancers, as well as HPV vaccinations and Pap smears. The fair also offers consultations for cardio-metabolic diseases, such as hypertension and diabetes, alongside renal function tests, glucose monitoring, and blood pressure controls. Additionally, the event features nutritional guidance, ophthalmology, mental health support, and vaccination stations.

President Bernardo Arévalo and Health Minister Joaquín Barnoya attended the event, emphasizing that these diagnostic and treatment services are provided free of charge. Authorities noted that while the fair offers immediate access, similar services remain available at hospitals and permanent health centers across the country. Attendance projections for this year aimed to exceed eight thousand participants, following a significant increase from previous years.
