Guatemala oversight bodies undergo leadership and selection updates

Walter Sosa has begun a new term as president of the Court of Accounts of the Republic (CCR), pledging to prioritize the modernization and agility of public fund auditing. Sosa aims to accelerate fiscalization processes and reduce the backlog of pending files in the Second Instance Chamber while maintaining legal and technical rigor. Key achievements noted include the implementation of an electronic notification module used by over 2,500 public servants to streamline procedures.

Simultaneously, the nomination commission for the new head of the Comptroller General of Accounts (CGC) has opened a period for receiving formal objections, or ‘tachas’, against the 40 professional candidates in the selection process. These complaints, which target the honorability of the aspirants, are being collected at the Universidad Rafael Landívar. Following this stage, the commission will establish interview methodologies to eventually present a shortlist of candidates to the Congress of the Republic for final selection.
