Guatemala orders 106 Honduran migrants to leave country

The Guatemalan Migration Institute (IGM) has issued orders of departure for 106 Honduran migrants who entered the country irregularly. During inspections conducted on September 21 and 22 at the El Cinchado border crossing in Izabal, authorities identified approximately 400 foreigners traveling from Honduras.

Of those identified, 250 individuals successfully provided documentation to prove their legal status and were permitted to continue their journey. The IGM applied the orders of departure under Article 77 of the Migration Code to facilitate the return of those who crossed without meeting requirements, a measure that avoids the imposition of fines for unauthorized entry and lack of identification.

Among the group, authorities provided humanitarian assistance to 50 members of families, including minors. Eight unaccompanied adolescents were placed under the protection of the Attorney General's Office of Guatemala (PGN). While the movement involves a group of roughly 400 citizens traveling toward the United States, IGM Director Danilo Rivera characterized the movement as a daily flow of people coinciding on border routes rather than an organized caravan.
