Guatemala police target arrests in Solórzano Foppa murder case
Guatemala’s National Civil Police (PNC) Director, David Boteo, announced that authorities expect to make the first arrests within 15 days regarding the murder of Juan Francisco Solórzano Foppa and Gustavo Adolfo Aguilar Gamarro. The shooting occurred on October 17 at a sports court in Campo Marte, where at least two gunmen reportedly shot Solórzano Foppa in the head.
Boteo addressed recent controversies regarding police operations, stating that agents follow specific protocols when intercepting suspects based on descriptions and that no orders were given to act outside the law. This follows the release of two suspects, Rigoberto and David Choc Toz, by a judge due to lack of merit.
Simultaneously, the Human Rights Ombudsman's Office (PDH) has opened two investigations. One probe targets the Ministry of the Interior and the PNC regarding the detention of the Choc Toz brothers, while the second investigates potential rights violations related to the incident.
