Guatemala reports 1,294 pregnancies in girls aged 10 to 14

Guatemala has recorded 1,294 pregnancies in girls aged 10 to 14 between January and July 2026, according to data from the Observatorio en Salud Sexual y Reproductiva (OSAR) based on Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance (MSPAS) records.

The majority of cases involve 14-year-olds, with 941 recorded, followed by 291 cases of 13-year-olds. Other cases include 53 girls aged 12, seven aged 11, and two aged 10. Of the total, 634 cases involve indigenous girls and 622 involve non-indigenous girls.

Geographically, the highest concentrations of cases are in Huehuetenango (198), Alta Verapaz (185), Quiché (132), and Petén (115). OSAR links this issue to poverty, social vulnerability, and limited access to health and protection services. Because Guatemalan law classifies sexual relations with minors under 14 as rape regardless of physical or psychological violence, these figures highlight significant concerns regarding sexual violence and the violation of children's rights.
