Guatemala selection process for Comptroller General releases candidate list

The Commission for the selection of the Comptroller General of Accounts (CGC) in Guatemala has released a list of candidates for the 2026-2030 term. Following a review of files, the Commission determined that 39 applicants met the necessary requirements, while 19 were excluded, primarily due to inconsistencies in notarized documents.

The excluded candidates have the opportunity to present evidence to contest these findings at the Commission's headquarters at Universidad Rafael Landívar between August 31 and September 2, 2026. Meanwhile, qualified applicants will be notified regarding upcoming psychometric testing conducted by Universidad del Valle de Guatemala.

In parallel, the Organization of American States (OAS) Special Mission has issued recommendations to strengthen the selection process. OAS mission head Carlos Ayala Corao emphasized the need for transparency, objectivity, and traceability. Key recommendations include maintaining stable evaluation rules to prevent bias, implementing uniform formal verification of files, and ensuring that scoring protocols are defined before individual results are known. The OAS also stressed the importance of evaluating the honorability, independence, and suitability of all candidates.
