Guatemala targets US$2,000 million export potential in Dominican Republic

Guatemala is seeking to significantly expand its export presence in the Dominican Republic, identifying a market potential exceeding US$2,000 million. While current annual exports from Guatemala to the Dominican Republic stand at approximately US$282 million, Agexport has identified 26 specific product categories with an estimated potential of US$2,556 million.

Agexport officials noted that Guatemala can serve as a closer alternative to suppliers in Europe and Asia for products currently imported by the Dominican Republic. Key sectors for growth include agro-industry, manufacturing, agriculture, textiles, and technology-related services. Guatemala already holds a leading position in the Dominican market for toothpaste and household cleaning products.

To facilitate this growth, Agexport and the National Organization of Commercial Companies (ONEC) have formalized an alliance. This partnership aims to strengthen ties between the business communities of both nations, facilitate contact between associated companies, and share market information to reduce distribution chain risks through regional proximity.
