Guatemalan trade and logistics expansion
Overview
Guatemala is pursuing strategies to expand its regional economic influence and trade capacity. Agexport has identified a potential export market in the Dominican Republic exceeding US$2,000 million, specifically targeting 26 product categories across the agro-industry, manufacturing, textiles, and technology sectors. To support this, Agexport and the National Organization of Commercial Companies (ONEC) have formed an alliance to strengthen business ties and reduce distribution risks through regional proximity.
In tandem with these export goals, industrial infrastructure in Guatemala is expanding. Home appliance manufacturer Mabe has opened a 15,000-square-meter Regional Logistics Hub in Escuintla. This facility is designed to optimize supply chains for the Northern Triangle, including Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras, with a storage capacity of up to 120,000 finished units.
