Guatemala's Comptroller selection commission excludes candidates

The Nomination Commission for the selection of Guatemala’s Comptroller General of Accounts (CGC) has made progress in narrowing down the field of candidates, though internal disagreements persist regarding evaluation standards.

During its fifth session, the commission unanimously excluded several aspirants, including Otto René Gómez Soto, Luis Alfredo Casimiro Domínguez, Gilmer Antolín Matías Miranda, and Fredy López Guevara, for failing to present exonerating evidence. Five additional candidates were also removed for failing to refute grounds for exclusion, and Edwin Bladimiro de León de León was disqualified following an extensive discussion.

Despite these exclusions, the commission has failed to reach a consensus on the minimum passing score required to form the final list of six candidates. Proposals for a cutoff line have ranged from 65 points to 75 points, with some members advocating for a top-15 selection based on grading tables. Commission President Miquel Cortés urged members to avoid external pressures and maintain dignity in their decision-making process.
