Guayaquil municipal initiatives promote cultural policy and community entrepreneurship

The Municipality of Guayaquil is advancing two major community-focused initiatives. First, over 150 representatives from the artistic and cultural sectors are participating in technical tables to draft a new municipal ordinance. This proposal, part of the ‘Diálogos Culturales Gye2026’ initiative, aims to establish support mechanisms, funding for competitive grants, and improved use of public infrastructure for artists and cultural managers.

Simultaneously, approximately 500 citizens recently participated in an exhibition at Parque Forestal to showcase skills acquired through Community Learning Workshops. Held across 51 community spaces over six weeks, the program provided training in diverse areas including artisanal crafts, baking, basic nursing, English, and cosmetology. The initiative, managed by the General Directorate of Community Liaison, is designed to foster self-employment and improve quality of life through practical vocational skills.
