Guayaquil community entrepreneurship and cultural policy

Overview

The Municipality of Guayaquil has implemented various vocational training programs and exhibitions to foster local economic development and self-employment.

In Isla Trinitaria, the Municipal Integral Attention Center (CAMI) hosted a fair to showcase products from free municipal training courses. These programs, managed through DASE EP, cover 19 productive areas including confectionery, artisanal soaps, and decorative paintings, aiming to provide residents with practical skills to increase family income.

Expanding on these efforts, approximately 500 residents participated in a larger exhibition at Parque Forestal. This event featured roughly 50 stands displaying crafts such as resin objects, balloon decoration, and pastry making. Led by the General Directorate of Community Engagement, the six-week program utilized 51 community centers across the city. The initiative offers a wide range of topics, from basic nursing and English to mathematics leveling for children.

Building on these community efforts, the municipality is now advancing cultural policy through the ‘Diálogos Culturales Gye2026’ initiative. As part of this program, over 150 representatives from the artistic and cultural sectors are participating in technical tables to draft a new municipal ordinance. This proposal aims to establish support mechanisms, funding for competitive grants, and improved use of public infrastructure for artists and cultural managers.
