Severe storms and flooding cause widespread damage across Spain, Venezuela, and Ecuador
Multiple regions are experiencing severe weather events, including heavy rainfall, flooding, and high winds.
In Spain, Catalonia has faced a tropical-like storm that caused two deaths and required over 2,000 emergency services interventions. In the Basque Country, heavy rains in Iurreta reached 53.1 l/m², though Bilbao reported a decrease in intensity following a yellow alert on Saturday.
In Venezuela, the Zulia state, particularly Maracaibo and San Francisco, suffered significant damage. Winds exceeding 80 km/h caused roof collapses, downed trees, and damaged telecommunications infrastructure. Governor Luis Caldera reported that 770 homes were affected by the storm.
In Ecuador, Quito experienced violent storms and hail, known as the 'Cordonazo de San Francisco.' The weather caused flooding in the Metro de Quito's El Labrador station, trapped vehicles in underpasses, and led to dramatic rescues by firefighters.
In Mexico, heavy rains have caused flooding in parts of Ciudad Juárez and Ixtaczoquitlán, with authorities monitoring high water levels in rivers and rural roads.
