Guayaquil invests USD 1.3 million in pedestrian walkway lighting

The Municipality of Guayaquil has implemented lighting improvements and maintenance across more than 600 pedestrian walkways. Through the Directorate of Public Works, the city has invested USD 1.3 million in preventive, corrective, and upgrading maintenance for both the northern and southern sectors of the city.

As of April 2025, the Electrical Works Coordination has worked on 631 pedestrian areas, 429 of which have been modernized with LED technology. To combat frequent cable theft in certain sectors, such as Los Esteros and Sauces, the city has also transitioned to using aerial aluminum cabling.

Key areas receiving interventions include Alborada, Urdesa, Samanes, Mapasingue Este, and various sectors within the Floresta and Guancala regions. Residents have noted that the improved illumination has enhanced the perception of safety and allowed for increased use of public spaces during nighttime hours.
