Cynthia Viteri named ADN mayoral candidate for Guayaquil

Former Guayaquil mayor Cynthia Viteri has been selected as the Acción Democrática Nacional (ADN) candidate for the city’s mayoral race in the 2026 sectional elections. After initially filing a precandidacy with Centro Democrático, Viteri switched to ADN following discussions with President Daniel Noboa and will run on list 7.

ADN officially announced its slate on 16 July 2026, confirming Viteri’s candidacy and naming Andrés Guschmer for the Guayas prefecture. Niels Olsen, who had been slated for Guayaquil, will now contest the mayoralty of Samborondón. The PSC has presented Andrés Roche as its own contender, while other parties have fielded candidates such as Juan Pablo Molina and Mónica Luzárraga.

Viteri, who served as mayor from 2019 to 2023, says she has 37 technical studies ready to address security, basic services and public works if elected. The race pits her against PSC’s Roche and other candidates, making it one of the most closely watched contests in Ecuador’s upcoming elections.
