Guayaquil mayoral race adds precandidates Cynthia Viteri and Juan Pablo Molina
Former mayor Cynthia Viteri has announced her precandidacy for the Guayaquil mayoral election scheduled for 29 November 2026, running under the Centro Democrático movement. Viteri previously served as mayor from 2019 to 2023 with the Partido Social Cristiano and has a long political résumé that includes roles as vice‑president of Congress and as a national assembly member.
The Revolución Ciudadana movement, through the AMIGO coalition, has named current assembly member Juan Pablo Molina as its precandidate for the same contest. Molina pledged his candidacy on social media, citing continuity with the current mayor Aquiles Álvarez, who remains in prison while facing multiple corruption and money‑laundering investigations.
