Guayaquil opens new Secure Action Station in Cerro del Carmen

On 21 July, Guayaquil’s acting mayor Tatiana Coronel inaugurated a new Secure Action Station (EAS) on the Cerro del Carmen hill. The facility, part of a citywide program led by mayor Aquiles Álvarez that has so far created 13 EAS sites, is equipped with 67 surveillance cameras, six motorbikes, a utility truck, a paramedic and 40 municipal control agents, supported by local police.

The station aims to protect roughly 8 000 residents and the estimated 22 000 people who visit the area daily for work, education, tourism and religious activities. It monitors key thoroughfares such as Pedro Menéndez Gilbert Avenue and nearby neighborhoods including Las Peñas, Puerto Santa Ana and the Santa Ana hill, providing rapid response to incidents and a deterrent presence in the historic centre.
