Guerrero Governor addresses alleged congress check fraud

Guerrero Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda has addressed allegations of a major fraud involving forged checks within the state's local congress. Salgado stated that she respects the separation of powers and noted that it is the responsibility of the legislative branch to provide updates on the investigation.

The investigation follows a complaint by local deputy María Guadalupe Villalba García, who reported that her signature was forged on 50 checks. Reports suggest the fraud could involve more than 20 million pesos, potentially affecting 21 deputies, most of whom belong to the Morena party.

The State Attorney General's Office (FGE) has requested financial information from the Congress regarding the issuance of these documents. Several former officials have been implicated, including Jesús Urióstegui García, a substitute for a local deputy.
