Guggenheim Abu Dhabi to Open Dec 11 2026, Frank Gehry's Largest Museum
The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi announced that the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will welcome its first visitors on 11 December 2026. The museum will be situated on Saadiyat Island within the Saadiyat Cultural District, joining institutions such as Louvre Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum, the Natural History Museum and teamLab Phenomena.
Designed by Pritzker‑prize‑winning architect Frank Gehry, the building spans about 80,000 sq m, including 11,600 sq m of gallery space across 30 galleries. Its most striking feature is a series of ten sculptural cones, some reaching 88 m in height, which provide natural ventilation and shade. Upon opening, it will become the world’s largest Guggenheim museum and will showcase modern and contemporary art from the 1960s onward, with a focus on artists from West Asia, North Africa and South Asia.
