Guillermo del Toro and Alfonso Cuarón to receive UNAM Film Medal

Mexican filmmakers Guillermo del Toro and Alfonso Cuarón will be honored with the Medalla Filmoteca UNAM during the 24th edition of the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM).

Guillermo del Toro is scheduled to receive the award on Sunday, October 18. The event will include a special gala celebrating the 20th anniversary of ‘El laberinto del fauno’, featuring the director.

Alfonso Cuarón will receive the distinction on Tuesday, October 20. Prior to the award ceremony, Cuarón will participate in the festival's opening night with a screening of ‘Campeón gabacho’, a film directed by his son, Jonás Cuarón, and produced by Alfonso.

The Medalla Filmoteca UNAM, awarded by the National Autonomous University of Mexico since 1987, recognizes individuals whose cinematic contributions significantly enrich global film heritage. The medal holds symbolic value as it is crafted from silver residue extracted from film developing processes.
