Guillermo del Toro calls for support for Morelia Film Festival

The 24th edition of the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) is scheduled to take place from October 16 to 25, featuring 96 films in competition. A central highlight of the event will be the 20th-anniversary celebration of Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’, which will be screened as part of the special programming.

Amidst the festival preparations, filmmaker Guillermo del Toro has publicly called upon Mexico’s Federal Ministry of Culture to support the festival. This appeal follows warnings from FICM director and founder Daniela Michel regarding increasingly precarious economic conditions. Michel noted that the festival is organized by a non-profit civil association and requires constant efforts to secure funding from governments, institutions, and the private sector to ensure its continuity.

In addition to the anniversary screenings, the festival will feature a Mexican feature film competition with 12 productions. The jury for this section will be led by director Juan Antonio Bayona. The opening ceremony on October 16 will showcase ‘Campeón gabacho’, directed by Jonás Cuarón.
