Guinea-Bissau Electoral Crisis White Paper Presented in France
The Institute of International African Law and Good Governance (IDIABG) unveiled a new "White Paper on the electoral and institutional crisis in the Republic of Guinea‑Bissau" at a press conference in Bois‑Colombes, near Paris. The document provides an independent legal analysis of the interruption of the November 2025 presidential election, the blockage of result proclamation, the detention of former prime minister Domingos Simões Pereira, and the resulting impact on institutional legitimacy, popular sovereignty and national stability.
The paper was presented by Saïd Larifou, IDIABG president and legal counsel to Simões Pereira and Fernando Dias da Costa. It calls on ECOWAS, the African Union, the United Nations, the Community of Portuguese‑Speaking Countries and the European Union to intensify diplomatic and legal efforts that respect the rule of law, democracy and human rights. The analysis also references the upcoming ECOWAS summit in Sierra Leone and urges regional bodies to support a constitutional solution, including a possible referendum and new elections.
