Guinea Justice Minister pushes for judicial reforms and efficiency
Guinea’s Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Ibrahima Sory II Tounkara, is spearheading a national tour to evaluate and improve judicial and penitentiary services. During a visit to the Kankan region, the Minister urged magistrates and judicial officials to accelerate case processing, reduce delays in drafting and delivering decisions, and improve responsiveness to citizens.
Tounkara emphasized that the judiciary must serve as a reliable last resort for citizens to prevent them from seeking private justice. He warned that prolonged waiting periods and a lack of communication increase public frustration.
In conjunction with the Minister’s tour, the General Inspectorate of Judicial and Penitentiary Services, led by Ibrahima Soumah, conducted field inspections in Kérouané, Beyla, and Lola. The mission evaluated the functioning of courts and detention centers, assessed working conditions for judicial staff, and identified logistical challenges to improve governance and protect the rights of detainees.
