Guinea: Mohamed Kourouma calls for stronger private sector role

Mohamed Kourouma, CEO of Hamana SA, has called for a strengthened private sector to drive economic development and industrialization in Guinea. During a press conference held on October 6, 2026, Kourouma emphasized that revitalizing private investment is a primary lever for creating jobs for the nation's youth.

Kourouma stressed that political and social stability is a prerequisite for attracting investors. He noted that political tensions and a heavy reliance on the state discourage long-term projects in essential sectors such as modern agriculture, livestock, and manufacturing. He highlighted that some companies have already abandoned or canceled planned investments in regions including Kindia, Mamou, Kankan, Labé, and the Forest Guinea region due to uncertainty.

The discussion also focused on the necessary complementarity between the state and the private sector, framing them as the two primary actors responsible for the country's economic functioning.
