Guinea National Assembly union defies suspension to hold leadership election

A dispute has emerged within the parliamentary administration in Conakry between the administration and the workers' union section. The Secretary General of the parliamentary administration, Aboubacar Camara, announced the suspension of the union bureau's activities, citing the expiration of their mandate.

Union leaders, including Secretary General Ismaël Gassime Kalissa and Administrative Secretary Fodé Lamine Touré, have rejected the suspension, calling it an illegal decision without legal basis that infringes upon trade union freedom. They maintain that the renewal of the bureau is the exclusive prerogative of their affiliated central union, the USTG.

Despite the administration's decision, the union has confirmed that the congress to elect a new bureau will proceed as scheduled on September 9. Union representatives stated they had officially informed the administration of their intent to hold the election as early as August 31.
