Guinea sets financial rules for senatorial elections amid deposit refund disputes
As Guinea prepares for upcoming regional and senatorial elections, the Direction générale des élections (DGE) has established new financial regulations for candidates. For the senatorial elections scheduled for December 20, 2026, each candidate is required to pay an electoral deposit of 30 million Guinean francs (GNF). These funds must be deposited with the Public Treasury at least 50 days before the vote. Additionally, the DGE has set a campaign spending cap of 300 million GNF per candidate, noting that exceeding this limit violates the electoral code.
In N’Zérékoré, political figures are raising concerns regarding the reimbursement of previous electoral deposits. Cécé 1 Délamou, regional coordinator of the Front démocratique de Guinée (FRONDEG), has called on authorities to settle outstanding deposits from the legislative and communal elections held on May 31. Délamou emphasized the distinction between campaign subsidies and electoral deposits, noting that candidates who obtained at least 5% of the vote are entitled to a refund. He reported that the 70-day legal window for such reimbursements has already passed, with many candidates still awaiting their funds.
