Guinea's Kindia Baccalaureate Fraud Case Moves to Conakry Appeal Court

Guinean prosecutors have filed an appeal against the firm sentences handed down by the Tribunal de première instance of Kindia to six students found guilty of cheating on the nation's single baccalaureate exam. The case has been transferred to the Cour d’appel of Conakry, with a hearing scheduled for Monday, 27 July 2026.

The appeal follows the death in custody of one of the convicted candidates, Mamadou Djouma Bah, who fell seriously ill while serving his month‑long imprisonment at the Kindia detention centre and died at the regional hospital despite emergency treatment. His death has sparked protests by fellow students demanding clarification and a review of the remaining sentences. Local authorities have urged calm and asked the public to trust the judicial process now overseen by the Conakry appeal court.
